The objective of this project was to create a small coffee table to the specification of a client. This coffee table was made for a client who wanted a hand made Ying and Yang style coffee table, that was smaller than those that already exist on the market.
The project began by looking into products that were already available and ensuring that the concepts that were sketched out were different. Through a series of questionnaires and interviews with professional furniture manufacturers, a final concept was selected and sent to the client. Once I received approval of the design, the manufacturing stage began. The design was created in multiple parts of MDF which would then be later joined together. The manufacturing was done, with reference to exact dimensions from the CAD model that was created for this project. After the final design had been assembled, the table was personally hand painted and varnished to protect the table top from wear.
The storage facility at the bottom level of the table, features 2 custom handles, made from pewter, which was sand cast in a custom made Ying and Yang mould. This detail received praise from the client, who was happy with this detail.
