The main objective of this project was to create "the tap of the future" for a well established, unnamed bathroom company. In order to successfully create something new and innovative, thorough research into the company, and their competitors existing products was conducted. This was to gain both knowledge of designs that are already available, and current technologies that are used in these designs.
Through research, a broad range of initial concepts were developed and analysed using a comparison table, which evaluated the concepts in a ranking system for separate categories, such as aesthetics and functionality. One particular design stood out from the rest with a great score and was further developed.
The final design, as shown in the images, is available with either:
  • 2 quarter turn handles controlling hot and cold water flow separately, and one tap.
  • 1 handle controlling both hot and cold water flow, 1 soap dispenser, and one tap.
This final design is also available in a variety of finishes such as ; Tarnished Gold, Rose Gold, Antique Gold, Chrome and Nickel, to appeal to the variety of markets that were investigated.
The design also includes a Cache Coin Slot Aerator to limit water usage, by reducing the flow rate to 6.82 litres/min. This aerator also prevents the tap from dripping excess water once the handle has been shut off, and will control the water flow by reducing splashing, when the water comes into contact with the basin.
